The Celestial Pathway
Prayer is a subject that should be constantly in the consciousness of all Christians.
It is the pathway, provided by God, to His magnificent Throne of Grace.

Prayer, our Personal channel to God
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

With or Without Jesus Eternity is Forever

This information is provided freely to ALL in the name of our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Developing the Appropriate Attitude and Relationship with Jesus

No active Christian, who believes in the teachings of Christ,
can take the subject of prayer lightly or as an after thought.
The effectiveness of our efforts is dependence upon our personal attitudes.
It is a little benefit for us to pray while holding ill feelings in our hearts toward other individuals.
In order to be effective we must clear any such feelings from our hearts,
by forgiving their trespasses, before we begin.
Matthew 6:14-15
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

We must maintain an appropriate relationship with Jesus.
Our relationship with God is based solely upon our relationship
with His Son.
John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you.
1 John 5:11-12
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
The meaning of these verses is that we must have genuine, sincere heart toward the Lord;
walk where He walks, using His blood for our continuing cleansing.  We must have His life.
Parable of Jesus regarding Prayer

Jesus makes it clear that the confession of our sins puts us in the proper attitude of prayer,
the attitude of humility.
Luke 18:10-14
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee,
that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or I fast twice in the week,
I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven,
but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Preparing Your Heart and Mind

It is suggested that before beginning your prayer, that you take a few minutes to properly prepare your heart and mind with the proper attitude of humility.  Remind yourself that you are addressing the Almighty.  Some find it helpful to sing a few lines of an old favorite such as “Take Time to be Holy” while making written notes of those items they wish to include.
Allow yourself time to draw close to God.  Our motives must be pure and sincere when we approach.  Understand that God is aware of you and knows your name and everything you want and need before He is asked.  There is a certain blessed assurance that results from placing your faith in an All Knowing, All Powerful Supreme Being.
Always begin and end your prays with Praise, Honor and Worship, but avoid using a memorized
opening and closing statements.  A study of the Psalms will provide many examples of how David addressed his Creator and closed his prayers.

James 4:8
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:8
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

The Model Prayer Provided by Jesus

Matthew 6:9-13
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

• We are instructed, by example, to have reverence for His holy name

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
• We are directed to have a submissive attitude towards His Will, in our hearts.

Give us this day our daily bread.
• We must understand and accept that our “daily bread” is totally dependence on Him.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
• A realization of our weakness and sinfulness.  We should ask for His constant forgiveness of our sins through the death and blood of His Son.  Understand that forgiveness will not be granted unless we are willing to forgive those who have “sinned” against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
• God will lead us, if we look to Him and walk with Him in our every step.  God will not lead us into temptation, but will if we allow, deliver us from evil.
• Note:  This pray begins with Honor and ends with Praise and Worship.
The Lord’s Prayer, as this passage is commonly known, is truly a model for everyone.  It is brief, containing only sixty words.  The scope of this prayer covers a wide range of physical and spiritual human needs.  A child can easily understand its simplicity and it is very specific.  The prayer is addressed to God, followed with petitions regarding heavenly and earthly concerns, with a closing praising and worshipping God.

Christ’s Prayer of Intercession

The prayer of Jesus on the night that he was betrayed comprises the entire seventeenth chapter of John.  Please note that Jesus prayed for each of us today and for the unity of his Church.  This would indicate that we should pray for others and the reuniting of THE Church.

John 17:20-21
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Instruction of James on Various Types of Prayer

James 5:13-18

13. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
– This verse suggests an individual prayer.
14. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
– This verse suggests a group or united prayer.
15. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
–  This verse suggests a prayer of belief
16. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.  The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
–  "pray one for another" is a directive to follow.  Relates to Paul's request in Thessalonians 5:25 "Brethren, pray for us" and the example provided by Jesus in John 17:20
–  "that ye may be healed" is a specific concrete request which indicates that we should make our prayers very specific, rather than the vague, general petition, which has become the habit of some, which may have resulted in prayers being less effective.
– The last line is this verse suggests a fervent or intense prayer.  This will result from an individual offering a prayer who has a strong belief in its power, lives and prays according to God's Will, in a attitude that humbly requests favors and mercy.
17.  Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
– Refers to Elijah’s closing and opening of the Heavens in 1 Kings 17 and 18, which was a rare and mighty miracle. This may have been referred to, as an incentive for us to pray.
18.  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
– These verses both refer to events in the Old Testament that suggests specific prayers.

Prayers of Thanksgiving

Meal times can serve as a handy reminder to pray,
giving thanks for the food we are about to partake of.

Daniel 6:10
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed,
he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem,
he kneeled upon his knees three times a day,
and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Colossians 4:2
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Suggestions for enriching your Life with Prayer

• Let the first and last words of your day be in the praise of the God.

Psalms 51:15
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

• Try praying in different ways.  A prayer can be silent, whispered, in a normal tone, sung or written as a letter addressed to God.  If you write a letter, it is suggested that you read it aloud to God, when it completed.
• Try praying in different positions.

Psalms 95:6
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
Matthew 26:39
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Mark 11:25
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
John 17:1
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Acts 21:5
And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.

• Pray at times of serenity.  Everyone experiences those special moments of serenity.  Perhaps while walking in the woods on a lovely day or in the evening with a crystal clear sky with thousands of stars or while on vacation hiking in the mountains or discovering a beautiful beach.  God made it all, and more, for you.
• Want to experience more of these special moments?  Try giving God the praise in a prayer of Thanksgiving and ask for more opportunities to enjoy the wonders he has provided us here on earth.
• Set aside some quiet time to pray privately to God and then clear you mind of all earthly matters on focus thoughts of heaven or just allow yourself to go blank and listen for God’s Spirit to speak to you.  If you have difficulty blanking your mind, try focusing on a white wall in your mind.
• Before or after prayer, read your Bible with a sense of expectancy.  Expect God to speak to you.
• Pray on the move, while riding in a automobile or airplane.
• Cleanse your soul with prayer, while taking a shower or bath,
• Pray in times of difficult situations or decisions.

James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

• Cling to the Scriptural promises of God, such as that all things work together for good and that God shall supply all your needs.  Remind yourself that only God has the power and is in control while you prepare to pray.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Philippians 4:19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

• Hold thoughts of God, His Son, the Holy Spirit and His Kingdom in your mind at all times.
• Some Christians are in the habit of verbally requesting help, praising or thanking God in short phases such as, "Thank You, God, Thanks to God, Praise God and Help me God.  These brief comments usually would not be considered to qualify as a prayer, but may indicate that a individual has thoughts of God on his or her mind.  In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul directs us to "pray without creasing", perhaps a mental pray could replace or be added to such comments.

• Keep a Prayer Journal of your requests and answers you believe you have received from God.  You may be surprised by the results.
• Form a prayer team of like-minded Christians.  Choose a worthy objective.   Prepare to be humbled by the power of your prayers.

Some Prayers of the Faithful may be Unacceptable.

In some cases, Christians may pray for the wrong reasons or improperly.
They pray because they have been taught that they must pray, without explanation as to the true purpose of prayer, which may result in the act of prayer becoming a duty, which may result in such prayers being unacceptable.
They pray only at times of extreme need or for things that are only self-serving, rather than having an ongoing dialog with God
Another potential problem area is the memorized prayer.  They certainly have a place in the training of children, but may not be acceptable or effective, as they must be generalized.
For this reason, memorized prayers should not given, which is the practice of some members, in any Service of the Church.  Our prayers must be from the heart and have meaning, not just words spoken as memorized statements.

Matthew 6:7
But when ye pray, USE NOT VAIN REPETITIONS, as the heathen do:
for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Do You Ever Feel that God just isn’t listening?

Some possible causes are:
• Christians cannot expect God to respond their prayers, if they continue in habitual sinful ways or avoid the assembly on a regular basis.

• Belief that the so-called Prayer of Salvation or Sinner’s Prayer will somehow result in forgiveness of sin, which has absolutely no scriptural support and therefore, all those who have attempted to use this method of cleansing their sins have failed and continue to seen as sinners in the eyes of God.

• The popular idea that prayer alone saves is also not supported by the scriptures.  Again, all those who have attempted to use this method of cleansing their sins have failed and continue to seen as sinners in the eyes of God.

John 9:31
NOW WE KNOW THAT GOD HEARETH NOT SINNERS: but if any man be a worshipper of God,
and doeth his will, him he heareth.
1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers:
but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

God has Provided Ways for Sinners to be heard

• A member of the Church of Christ, who has fallen away
If you are a Christian, who has fallen away and are now carrying an ever-increasing burden of sin, immediately contact your Minister or the Elders at your congregation. They will welcome the opportunity to assist you in returning to the fold.  After you have repented of your sins, a prayer of intercession will be offered on your behalf and then you will have the privilege of calling on God as a Heavenly Father and will be heard.
• If you are not yet a Christian
Accept the wonderful invitation of Christ for the salvation of your soul.  Confess his name before men, repent of your past sins and be buried with Christ in baptism.
At that moment you will have obeyed the Lord’s commandments and He will add you His family.  You will then have the privilege of calling on God as a Heavenly Father and will be heard.   God desires that everyone in the world would follow His Plan of Salvation and then remain faithful: “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1Timothy 2:4)

The Pathway to Heaven
  – Hear the Gospel
"How shall they call on him whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14)

– Believe
"And without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him" (Hebrews 11:6)

– Repent of Past Sins
"The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent." (Acts 17:30)

– Confess Jesus as Lord.
"Behold here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, if thou believeth with all thy heart thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:36-37)

– Be Baptized for the Remission of Sins.
"And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)

• What shall I Do?  I have already been baptized.
The baptism you received may not be scriptural and therefore would have no force or effect.
You, along with a large percentage of the population, may have been at one time or another been Baptized by Immersion.  PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOUR ORIGINAL BAPTISM IS ACCEPTABLE TO GOD.  It is most important that you consider the conditions and decisions you have personally made, not decisions made by your parents, grandparents, friends or others.
God foresaw that this would occur and provided a solution.   In the book of Acts, we have a clear example.  Certain disciples had been properly baptized by John the Baptist by immersion, but were not baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, as they were under the Old law at the time of their original baptism.  Paul instructed them to be baptized a second time, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Acts 19:3-5
And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people,
that they should believe on him, which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

If you do not obey God’s specific instructions for being saved, YOU ARE ON A JOURNEY TO HELL, where the eternal condemnation and everlasting punishment is indescribable or unspeakable in human term.

Your Immortal Soul has a greater value than the entire world
Matthew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Now the Challenge is to Remain Faithful and to follow the Narrow Path that leads to eternal Life, until death.

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.

What does it mean to Remain Faithful?
After an individual has been saved, it becomes their personal mission is to continue to be saved by remaining faithful.
The steps we took leading us to salvation are of little value if, we do not keep the FAITH.  The Greek word for faithful is “Pistos”, which means faithful, reliable, trustworthy and dependable.
Remaining faithful is carefully and strictly following the specific commandments, warnings, examples and patterns set by Jesus and his Apostles as defined in the Holy Scriptures.  There are many facets or elements of remaining faithful to God. God, your creator, is well aware of the sinful nature of man, as well as, the perfection He requires.
Fortunately, the path leading to perfection is stated clearly completely within the Bible.  God has provided everything we need in his Word to have everlasting life and to be happy while on Earth.

Revelation 2:10
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast [some]
of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days:

Matthew 25:23
thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:
enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

YOU are urged to carefully examine your life.

The Facts of Eternal Life

• Someday we will all die and there will definitely be a Judgment Day.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good,
or whether [it be] evil.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
• The Words of Jesus from Word of God will judge every man and woman,
who has ever lived, on Judgment Day.

JOHN 12:48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him:
the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Jesus Christ will be the judge all mankind on Judgment Day.
JOHN 5:22
For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
ACTS 17:30-31
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every
where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance
unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead.
MATTHEW 25:31-33
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him,
then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats:
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
• The sheep will go into eternal life and the goats will go to eternal everlasting punishment.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

   • At end of life, your earthly body passes away,
but your Immoral Soul will live for all eternity.

If you fail to accept God's Grace and Love, by becoming His faithful servant,
YOU HAVE SELECTED HELL, to spend everlasting time without end as a demonic
Angel of Satan, in never-ending Fire, BY DEFAULT.

With or Without Jesus Eternity is Forever.

• Please take a few minutes of quiet time and CONSIDER INTENSELY the concepts of eternity and continuous creaseless retribution.
• Life is too Short and time without end or eternity is simply too long and the everlasting punishment in the fires of Hell too terrifying to MAKE ANY ERRORS.
Make no mistake; you will not inadvertently end up in paradise.
Jesus assured us that He would arrange a place for His people,
who are willing to prepare themselves to be acceptable
for their place in Heaven.
Now is the Time to take Personal Control of your Spiritual Life

MATTHEW 7:13-14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and m any there be which go in thereat:

Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.

We are a stable, conservative, main-line mission church.
Charlie Bailey, our full time Minister,
has served the congregation, since 1989.
We need sound workers to retire in our area to help in the work of the Master.
